Maid Leaves Water Running; Resort Flooded
WAIKOLOA, HI -- Two vacationers left the water running in their Hilton Waikoloa hotel room today which flooded the entire Big Island resort.

Hilton officials reported that Ron McElfresh, visiting from Honolulu, asked his Filipino house maid to make 'one last check' before leaving the room. However, the maid, identified only as '#$%*&@ Vernelle', simply forgot to check the bathroom.

Water running from an overflowing sink cascaded throughout the resort, flooded rooms, the pool, and the nearby Waikoloa Golf Course.

Big Island officials were concerned that the high chlorine content of the overflowing water would damage local beaches, diving and surf areas, and marine biology.

McElfresh and his maid agreed to pose for a photograph before being removed from the resort by a rescue helicopter.

PHOTO NOTES

We're still on that vacation to the Big Island. This is the Hilton Waikoloa Resort.

Nice. Expensive.

You can swim with a real, live dolphin in a small pool just to the right of where we were standing.

It's about $75 per half hour. There's a lottery each day to have the 'privilege' to swim with the dolphin.

Some Japanese folks staying at the resort said the dolphin would make great sushi.

I'm taller than Vernelle.
