Teenagers Search For North Pole Ends In Hawaii
SANDY BEACH, HI -- Two Honolulu teenagers ended an exhausting walk toward the North Pole yesterday-- 7,000 miles short of their goal.

The teenagers, Joshua and Jonathan McElfresh of Honolulu, set out in search of the North Pole early Monday after they heard reports that it was "much colder up there."

Their search for the North Pole and cooler weather ended just hours after it began.

The boys reached the highway leading to Sandy Beach, a popular surfing and bodyboarding area, and realized the North Pole was beyond the Hawaiian Islands and would require a different transportation method other than The Bus.

"If we'd known it would be this far, we would've asked for a transfer," said Joshua McElfresh..

PHOTO NOTES

Hawaii, of course, is home to some of the most beautiful and inviting geography in the world.

These rocks are along Kalanianaole Highway just past Hanauma Bay toward Sandy Beach and Makapuu Point.

The ocean there is a deep, rich blue.

Every year a few tourists or lazy fishermen get knocked down and washed into the ocean by waves which hit the rocks.

Some get rescued.

The photo in the story above was taken just off the highway between Sandy Beach and Hanauma Bay.
