Religious Leader Predicts Girl; Woman Has Boys
Brother Fred Franz
HONOLULU, HI -- Fred Franz, President of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, while on a visit to Honolulu, predicted the sex of a baby near birth. His prediction caused quite a stir.

Weeks later, the woman gave birth to twin boys.

Franz visited Kingdom Halls in Honolulu and met with Vernelle Kam McElfresh who was pregnant at the time.

The nearly blind Franz talked with Mrs. McElfresh and predicted she would "probably have a girl."

Franz was also heard to say, "or maybe not...maybe it'll be a boy" but that statement could not be confirmed.

Just weeks after returning from Honolulu to her home in Missouri, Mrs. McElfresh gave birth to twin boys. Doctors assisting in the delivery said there was no way they could have altered the twin's gender between Franz's prediction and the birth.

In fact, an ultrasound was performed just minutes before the birth. Said Dr. Joe Martin, "Twins. You just can't trust medical equipment these days."

Martin reportedly left the hospital later in his horse and buggy.

PIX NOTES

Vernelle took a brief vacation back to Hawaii just before giving birth in 1982. She attended meetings at our old congregation near Diamond Head and met Brother Franz who also was visiting.

He thought she'd have a baby girl.

So much for divine guidance.
