Round The World Sailing Trip Ends; Boys Safe
WAIKIKI YACHT CLUB, HONOLULU, HI -- Two teenage
boys ended their quest to sail around the world abruptly today by docking back at
the Waikiki Yacht Club.
Joshua and Jonathan McElfresh, both of Honolulu, left the famous
Yacht Harbor just hours earlier for a three hour tour, a three hour tour.
The boys earlier had announced their attempt to be the first teenagers
to sail around the world alone, without their friends, without their parents.
Upon returning to the dock just hours later and shortly after lunch,
Joshua said, "I didn't think it would be so far. A trip like that could take
a lotta time. Maybe a couple of days."
Joshua's brother, Jonathan, had a similar response, "We forgot
to take food and water."
The Yacht Harbor area is the same location where the S. S. Minnow
left in the early 60s for 'a three hour tour, a three hour tour.'

PHOTO NOTES
In recent years we've tried to keep the boys busy during summer.
I've had the pleasure of having time off during the summer so they
learned to bodyboard, snorkel, and surf.
This year, we enrolled them in a sailing class at the nearby Waikiki
Yacht Club.
They grumbled. But they really enjoyed it after the first day.
It kept them busy and working hard from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. By later in the day they
were too tired to get into mischief.
The photo in the story above was taken at the docks of the Waikiki
Yacht Club near Ala Moana Beach Park (they surf there).
